Why Intentional Disney Vacation Club Extras Matter to Members
It took me a couple of years after my first Disney Vacation Club orientation to finally take the leap. We became DVC Members in 2018, and since then, I have learned that membership comes with both benefits and snags.
Like so many parts of Disney, from visiting the parks to collecting merchandise and cruising, the learning curve can be real. That complexity is also part of what has helped me grow as a travel advisor. The knowledge I have gained over the years helps me guide families who want to make the most of their Disney vacations.
Recently, I saw a post in a DVC Facebook group(opens in new tab) about the Halloween keepsake being offered during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. It reminded me that the little extras can matter more than Disney may realize.
Intentionality makes the difference
As someone who has run a digital marketing boutique agency, I see real value in creating a connection between offline experiences and online conversations. An intentional gift can become part of a guest’s story. It can be something they photograph, share with friends, bring back on another trip, or simply remember as a moment when a brand made them feel seen.
That does not mean every giveaway needs to be expensive. It means the item should feel connected to the event, useful to the person receiving it, and thoughtfully chosen.
For Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, a practical Halloween keepsake makes sense. Families are dressed up, trick-or-treating, collecting candy, and making memories together. A small item that supports that experience or becomes part of it can create a positive connection long after the party ends.
My honest take on DVC Member extras
As frequent Disney cruisers, we have received our share of DVC items over the years. Some have been fun, but many have not felt especially useful or memorable. The same has been true of some Member update events. A couple of years ago, we attended a Member update that included a mystery gift. While the gift itself wasn’t necessarily something we would have chosen, we did pick up a few helpful things from the update. That said, I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to attend again solely for an unknown giveaway.
That is why I think intentionality matters. Members notice when an item is useful, well made, and connected to an experience they already love.
We have enjoyed items like MagicBand sliders, and I would love to see more thoughtful Member extras in the parks and on Disney cruises. These do not need to be extravagant. They simply need to feel intentional.
The 2026 Halloween keepsake
Disney Vacation Club has announced a special Halloween keepsake for eligible Members attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in 2026. The giveaway is available during every party night at the Disney Vacation Club McKim’s Mile House, the Member Lounge at Magic Kingdom Park.
The giveaway is scheduled from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM Eastern Time. Disney notes that a valid party ticket, eligible DVC Membership Extras benefits, a Digital Membership Card, and photo ID are required. Keepsake options, dates, and availability are subject to change.
