We’re Booked: San Juan to Port Canaveral

One of the current options is a one-way sailing from San Juan to Port Canaveral, Florida—and we are already booked on it. For us, this itinerary is such a fun way to combine a Disney cruise with a Walt Disney World vacation.

Instead of flying to Florida before the cruise, we will begin our vacation right here in San Juan, settle into our stateroom, and enjoy the Disney Cruise Line experience as we sail toward Central Florida. Once we arrive in Port Canaveral, the Disney fun can continue with time at Walt Disney World.

This itinerary is especially appealing for Puerto Rico families who want to experience both a Disney cruise and the parks in one vacation. You can enjoy time at sea first, then continue on to Central Florida for a Walt Disney World resort stay, park days, character dining, or whatever Disney magic fits your family best.

If you are considering this route, give yourself enough time to plan the Florida portion of your trip. You may want to arrange transportation from Port Canaveral to Walt Disney World, reserve your resort stay, and decide whether you want to add park tickets before booking. Our Disney trip cost estimator can help you start thinking through the budget for the Walt Disney World portion of your vacation.

We will be sharing more as we plan this sailing—from embarkation-day details and what we pack to transportation from Port Canaveral and our Walt Disney World plans afterward. For Puerto Rico travelers who have cruised from Florida before, this is also a different and memorable way to begin a Disney vacation.

A Southern Caribbean Favorite

The other sailing is on one of our favorite Disney Cruise Line routes: the Southern Caribbean. Southern Caribbean itineraries are popular because they often offer a more port-focused cruise experience, with beautiful islands, warm water, and opportunities to explore beyond the usual short Bahamas itinerary.

Sailing from San Juan makes this route even more appealing for travelers in Puerto Rico. You can start close to home while still enjoying the excitement of a Disney cruise vacation. For families, couples, and multigenerational groups, it can be an easier way to enjoy a Caribbean itinerary without adding the cost and time of flights to a mainland departure port.

A Southern Caribbean cruise is a great reason to plan ahead for port days. Think about the excursions your family enjoys most, whether that means beach time, sightseeing, water activities, or simply exploring at a relaxed pace. If you are planning to sail with children, keep your port days balanced so everyone still has time to enjoy the ship, the pools, the shows, and the kids’ spaces onboard.

Plan Your San Juan Cruise Day

Because San Juan sailings are limited, it is smart to begin planning early once you find an itinerary that works for you. Confirm your cruise terminal and port arrival information in your Disney Cruise Line documents, decide how you will get to the port, and plan your luggage and travel day carefully. For local families, this may be much simpler than flying to another departure port, but it still helps to have a checklist.

A cruise from Puerto Rico is also a great opportunity to enjoy more of the island before you sail. Arriving a little early gives visitors time to explore the history, food, and colorful streets of the city with our Old San Juan walking tour guide, or plan a family beach day using our Puerto Rico beach safety tips for families visiting San Juan.
